Ronald William Lech Sr.

October 24, 1947 – March 10, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Ronald William Lech Sr. announce his passing on March 10, 2025, at the age of 77. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Ron lived a life dedicated to his family, his craft, and his faith.

Ron was born on October 24, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in the Tremont neighborhood. He attended St. John Canisius High School and spent much of his youth and young adulthood in the South Side of Cleveland, where his father worked in the steel mills. It was here that Ron's strong work ethic and sense of community were nurtured. He was also an altar boy at St. Augustine Church in Tremont, a role that deeply influenced his lifelong devotion to the Catholic faith.

Ron was married to his devoted wife, Sandra Lech, for 56 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children: Cheryl Gatto (husband Greg) and Ronald Lech Jr. (wife Cathy). Ron took great pride in his family, especially in his role as a grandfather to Gregory Gatto Jr. (wife Isabelle), Elizabeth Gatto, and Thomas Gatto, and as a great-grandfather to Magdalena Gatto.

A skilled and accomplished bricklayer, Ron started as an apprentice before attending drafting school. He became a union masonry contractor with Local 5 Bricklayers, Cleveland, and the owner of C&L Masonry, a company known for its exceptional work. Over the years, he employed as many as 50 men and built a reputable business that completed numerous projects, including many for the Catholic Diocese. Ron’s expertise and attention to detail earned him several awards, including the prestigious Golden Trowel Award for outstanding work and numerous other craftsmanship honors.

In addition to his professional achievements, Ron was deeply committed to his community and faith. He was particularly devoted to the Catholic Church, contributing to its growth and success. Ron built the first school for St. Peregrine’s Catholic Church, donating all of the labor, materials, and furnishings. He also supported the Legion of Mary and helped young men aspiring to the priesthood, providing them with necessary supplies for their education.

As a housebuilder, Ron constructed two homes for himself, a testament to his personal skill and dedication to craftsmanship. His legacy is not only reflected in the structures he created but also in the lives he touched through his generosity, work ethic, and unwavering faith.

Ron will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him. His memory will live on in the homes, schools, and churches he helped build, as well as in the hearts of those who knew him.
